The Hill Library - Strafford, NH

The Hill Library is the public library in Strafford, NH. The staff at Hill Library works to provide free and valuable services to the community. Although we experienced a variety of restrictions over the past year, we continue to provide traditional services, new virtual programs, and are looking forward to providing our group activities when restrictions are lifted. Please go to our website at HillLibrary.org to find details about or services and programs.

For families, we offer several virtual programs for children on a weekly basis. We have Birthday Baskets that are delivered to celebrate local babies’ first birthdays and introduce them to the library. In fact, anyone with a library card receives a free book to keep on their birthday. We encourage families to enroll in our Read 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program.  We have a toy lending library that has toys, board games, puzzles, snap circuit kits, nature exploration kits, and adventure backpacks. We host a fun Summer Reading Program with online and take-home activities for adults and children each summer.

Last year, the Hill Library started a Children’s Community Garden on the lot adjacent to the library. Volunteers, staff, and families worked together to cultivate the garden and in 2020 harvested over 130 pounds of produce, which was donated to the Strafford Food Pantry. We hope to top that in 2021.

For adults, the library offers books, DVD movies, CD audiobooks, jigsaw puzzles, and downloadable audiobooks, magazines, and e-books. The Friends of Hill Library sponsor a museum admission reimbursement program and also provide free copies of Bookpage to our patrons. We have a vast NH Collection which has many materials related to local history, maps, and points of interest. You can even borrow a high-powered telescope from the Hill Library, along with materials about stargazing.

The library postponed many groups during the winter months. With warmer weather approaching and restrictions lifting, we plan to start up our yoga classes, children’s story time and music programs, after school programs, author visits, cribbage and mahjong groups, political gatherings, sewing and craft groups, poetry groups, drive- in movies and book discussions.  Until then, please access all of our virtual services that can be found on our website and YouTube channel. The Hill Library also sponsors a Little Free Library, located on Water Street across from the dam, where anyone can find a book to read for free.

You can borrow any of our library materials by ordering online or by calling the library. We offer front-door pick-up and delivery. Currently, the library is opening for browsing two days a week and offers families the opportunity to make an appointment to safely browse alone in the library one day per week.   In addition to over 14,000 items to borrow, the Hill Library offers Inter-Library Loan services, federal tax forms and instructions, U.S. Passport Application Acceptance, Notary Public Services, free WIFI 24/7, print, copy, fax, and laminating services.
